Here’s a helpful hint from Willie Zuniga that may be useful.  “We all know that the plating process sometimes causes the smaller clasps to stick, and I’ve found that the ones that are not actually frozen shut … just really stiff, will loosen perfectly if you spray them lightly with WD40.  I don’t wash them afterwards, just rub them dry with paper towels.
The clasps that are frozen shut can usually be fixed by inserting a needle tool into the small opening at the base of the lever.  If you work it back and forth a bit, it will break the seal the lacquer has created.  If they don’t free up with the first attempt, it’s best to discard them.  Too much manipulating weakens them a little too close to the breaking point.”
